FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 9th, 2024

Latah, Lewis, and Nez Perce Counties: District 6

As part of our ongoing commitment to expanding access to nutritious meals for all Idahoans, I will propose a new piece of legislation that would allow more restaurants, beyond just Papa Murphy's, to accept Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) and food stamps as a form of payment.

Currently, the options for families and individuals utilizing food assistance programs are limited to grocery stores and certain prepared food outlets. This limitation disproportionately affects those who may not have the means or time to prepare meals at home.

By extending the use of EBT to include additional restaurants, we can offer a broader range of healthy, prepared food choices to families who need it most. This proposed legislation will prioritize restaurants that offer nutritious, affordable meals and maintain high food safety standards. The aim is to enhance food security across our state while supporting local businesses and boosting our economy.

I believe that everyone deserves access to healthy meals, regardless of their financial situation. This initiative will ensure that all Idahoans have the ability to choose food that meets their dietary needs and fits their lifestyle. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature to pass this important legislation, and I encourage input from our community as we move forward.

Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive food system for all. For more information please contact me,
